Panjab University, being the fourth oldest university in the country, has an outstanding reputation of imparting socially relevant and ethically oriented education since 1882. The University has 85 Teaching and Research Departments, 188 colleges, 4 constituent colleges, 4 Chairs and 4 Regional Centres located at Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur, Muktsar and Kauni.

The farsighted acumen of leadership of Panjab University has consistently injected doses of rejuvenation from time to time in academic life of the University and hence University has succeeded in maintaining the dynamism. The University, simultaneously, has made optimal use of its glorious heritage and expertise of its faculty by introducing new teaching and research programmes in sunrise areas from time to time. University has introduced 65 new courses in last four years including Stem Cell and Tissue Engineering, Nuclear Medicine, Medical Physics, System Biology and Bioinformatics, Public Health, MBA (sectoral areas) , Microbial Biotechnology etc. The governing structure of PU is democratic, transparent, decentralised and ethically oriented.



The UGC has also selected Panjab University under its scheme of “University with Potential for Excellence” in Biomedical Sciences. MOUs with numerous International Institutions including Oxford Brookes University, UK; Wisconsin University, USA; The University of Manitoba, Canada and The University of Fraser Valley, Canada ensure international exposure to students and the faculty.
